Weathered Gold
Weathered Gold explores the quiet beauty revealed through time. Rich layers of earthy browns, weathered blacks and luminous gold emerge through the surface, suggesting the discovery of something precious hidden beneath years of transformation. Rather than depicting a specific place, the painting evokes the feeling of uncovering histories embedded within materials and landscapes.
The work was inspired by the changing surfaces found in the everyday world—aged gates where paint has worn away to reveal timber beneath, rusted metal transformed by years of exposure, uneven pavements, weathered walls and the subtle beauty created by sun, rain and time. These observations became the starting point for an exploration of how natural processes reveal rather than diminish beauty.
Created intuitively using acrylic and mixed media, each layer responds to the one before it, allowing texture, colour and atmosphere to develop organically. The gold becomes a symbol not of decoration, but of revelation—echoing humanity's enduring search beneath the earth for materials of value and reminding us that what is hidden often becomes the most precious.
